Hi everyone,
It’s been a while since the last edition of the Anni Piper newsletter.
After the recent release of my new CD Texas Hold ‘Em I have
been keeping my cards very close to my chest!!
It is with regret that I have to announce that Richard Steele is
leaving the band. Richard and I have been performing live together for
almost 3 years and each gig has been a privilege. He is an astoundingly
gifted guitar player, plus a gentleman and scholar in every way. Good luck
mate; you will be missed! Stepping in is Mr Sam Buckley, a young guitar
slinger with an energetic style and a passion for Texas Blues. Sam is
about to finish his music degree and we will introduce him to the tour
circuit from 17th November at Majors Creek.
So what else is new? I had a fabulous time at the Gympie Muster this
year – I had mud up to my knees but that didn’t spoil the party. The roads
leading to the festival site in the national park at Amamoor had flooded.
By the time we got there, all the musicians were traveling by bus in and
out of the grounds. I saw Dave Hooper (guitarist with my early band
Silver Beaver, now guitarist – Blues Bombers). He and I haven’t
seen each other for a few years and he was stranded with his band, poor
guy. They had driven their car in before the floods (earlier in the week)
and now couldn’t get out!!
I thoroughly enjoyed my appearance on WinTV’s The Susie Show
in August. It was my first TV appearance, and I’m glad I have had a lot of
contact with the media (radio) already otherwise I think I would have been
nervous. I performed Texas Hold ‘Em along with a backing
track from the actual CD studio recording session - how non-blues can you
get!? Hopefully it was a good performance and I think you might be able to
find it on YouTube.
Rave reviews have been coming in for Texas Hold ‘Em
since its release. I will reproduce a few quotes on the website soon. I
was also a nominee for the Rudy Brandsma Award at the 2008 Australian
National Songwriting Contest for the new songs on the CD.
Touring has been keeping me very busy and you may have noticed my
schedule is full until the New Year. The entire band is excited about
performing at the upcoming Woodford Folk Festival as we have heard such
great reports about this annual event. Hope you’re all going to be there
and if not, catch us in a town near you in 2008.
Until next time take care,
Anni
